Install and self-update
Install the CLI on macOS, Linux or Windows with one command; it keeps itself up to date.
macOS and Linux
Open Terminal and paste:
curl -fsSL https://webmati.com/cli/install.sh | sh
The script detects your system and CPU (Intel or Apple Silicon, x86-64 or ARM64),
downloads the matching build, checks its SHA-256 against the release's
SHA256SUMS and only then installs it to ~/.local/bin/webmati. It needs no
root; if the checksum does not match, nothing is installed.
Options (set them in front of sh):
# install a specific version
curl -fsSL https://webmati.com/cli/install.sh | WEBMATI_VERSION=0.1.2 sh
# install somewhere else
curl -fsSL https://webmati.com/cli/install.sh | WEBMATI_INSTALL_DIR="$HOME/bin" sh
Windows
Open PowerShell (no Administrator needed) and paste:
irm https://webmati.com/cli/install.ps1 | iex
The CLI goes to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\webmati\webmati.exe, and that folder is
added to your user PATH. Windows on ARM runs the x86-64 build emulated.
PATH — "command not found"
After installing, open a new terminal window and run:
webmati version
If it says command not found (macOS/Linux), the install folder is not on your
PATH. The installer printed the line to add; for zsh (the macOS default):
echo 'export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.zshrc
For bash use ~/.bashrc on Linux and ~/.bash_profile on macOS. Close the
terminal and open a new one. On Windows, reopen PowerShell.
Self-update
The CLI keeps itself current:
- Once a day, when you run a command, it checks whether a release is out (in the background, within 2 seconds, never slowing your command down).
- When there is one, it downloads it after your command is done, checks the checksum, runs it once, and only then replaces the binary you use.
- It does not replace itself in CI, when the output is
--jsonor a pipe, or in the long-running modes (mcp, exec, dev). There it only says a release is out.
By hand:
webmati update # update now
webmati update --check # only say whether a release is out
webmati update --version 0.1.1 # install exactly that version (an older one rolls back)
webmati update --off # stop updating automatically (it still says when a release is out)
webmati update --on # update automatically again
The environment variable WEBMATI_NO_AUTO_UPDATE=1 also stops the automatic swap.
Exit code 4: this CLI is too old
When the platform no longer serves your CLI version, every command (except
update, version, helpandlogout) stops with exit code 4 and says "too old". Runwebmati update.
Uninstall
Delete the webmati file (macOS/Linux: ~/.local/bin/webmati; Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\webmati). Keys and settings live in ~/.config/webmati/
(Windows: %USERPROFILE%\.config\webmati); delete that folder to forget them.
